PodcastOne inks new sales deal with Was I In A Cult?

Show marks the latest former Kult podcast to join the network

Podcast network PodcastOne has singed an exclusive ad sales and distribution deal with popular podcast Was I In A Cult?, the company has announced, marking the latest podcast to move from Kast Media to the platform.

The podcast, which was first launched in 2021, sees hosts Liz Iacuzzi and Tyler Measom speaking to survivors of cults who have successfully left.

“PodcastOne is thrilled to team with Liz and Tyler to reignite the fervor and phenomenon that surrounded Was I In a Cult? through their initial round of episodes,” said Kit Gray, president and co-founder of PodcastOne. “The cultural impact that this podcast had and the watercooler talk left a lasting impression in the world of podcasting, and we cannot wait to bring new episodes to listeners and to advertisers in 2024.”

The co-hosts are currently working on developing the podcast into a TV series in collaboration with Edgeline Films, the production company behind the popular unscripted reality series Couples Therapy.

“We are so excited to get our show back up and running,” said Iacuzzi and Measom. “We have incredible and important stories to share and feel like we’ve finally found the right home in PodcastOne. We’re looking forward to our partnership and all the possibilities that lie ahead.”

The podcast was previously part of Kast Media - a podcast network that has been embroiled this year in controversies over unpaid ad revenue that creators within the network say the company owes them. Podcasters such as Whitney Cummings, Theo Von and Tony Hawk have all left the network over the matter.

PodcastOne’s parent company LiveOne announced a prospective IP acquisition deal with Kast earlier this year, which would see a range of Kast’s top podcasts join the PodcastOne network, but quickly hit roadblocks with creators claiming they were not consulted on the deal and did not give the necessary consent for their podcasts to be transferred.

The company has since announced separate partnership and acquisition deals with a number of former Kast podcasts including Rabia and Ellyn Solve the Case, The Opportunist, and Nighty Night.
