Shaquille O’Neal to launch podcast network

The Big Podcast Network aims to attract athlete-created shows

Basketball and pop culture legend Shaquille O’Neal is planning to launch his own podcast network, it has been announced, in partnership with sports media company Playmaker HQ.

The Big Podcast Network will play host to the 7ft 1in sportsman’s own show, The Big Podcast - previously part of the WBD Sports network - with O’Neal joined by Playmaker producer Shaine Freeman and Adam Lefkoe, who co-hosts the TNT network’s analysis show Inside The NBA with O’Neal. All shows on with network will be produced by O’Neal’s company Jersey Legends Productions in collaboration with Playmaker’s internal team.

"I'm excited to work with Playmaker, a creative partner with a unique production and distribution process, to create my own podcast network," said O'Neal. "The Big Podcast Network will prioritise and uplift fresh and diverse voices that will expand the conversation beyond sports to include music, fashion, and entertainment."

Shows will be distributed across the network’s YouTube channel, streaming service Max and the Bleacher Report app, as well as all major podcast directories. The network is aiming to attract further sporting talent to create content for the platform, tapping into the growing trend of athlete-created content and its strong engagement with fans.

"From our first conversation, our visions were perfectly aligned, with both sides wanting to make a fun, creative, and authentic show, as well as wanting to build a full-service platform to help other athletes build their own successful content platforms," Playmaker HQ's president and chief content officer Brandon Harris said.

"Our audience already loves Shaq, and we can't wait for them to get to know him even better through this platform. Even more importantly, we couldn't be more excited to be a driving force behind even more athlete entrepreneurship success stories together with our new network."
