The Ringer Podcast Network is set to launch a new podcast exploring the scandal around an affair between cast members of popular reality TV show Vanderpump Rules.
The new podcast, An American Scandoval, will be a three-part series, and will be released daily between boxing day and 28 December on The Ringer Reality TV Podcast feed, available on major podcast platforms. The show will be hosted by Jodi Walker, a staff writer for The Ringer specialising in reality TV.
Developed as a spinoff from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Vanderpump Rules focuses on the personal and professional lives of staff at Real Housewives cast member Lisa Vanderpump’s bars and restaurants. Introduced as a regular cast member in the first season, bartender Tom Sandoval has been a series regular ever since, shortly joined by long-time partner Ariana Madix in season two.
Rumours of an affair between Sandoval and fellow Vanderpump Rules cast member Raquel Leviss began circulating earlier this year, prompting widespread speculation and discussion among the show’s fanbase, as well as a considerable amount of amateur social media sleuthing to try and get to the bottom of it.
The affair was confirmed shortly afterwards, and both Sandoval and Leviss have been subject to an extended backlash from fans and fellow cast members over the incident, with Leviss describing himself as “the most hated man in America”. Earlier this month, it was announced that while Sandoval will be returning for the show’s 1th season, Leviss will not.
As well as discussing the scandal itself, which has been exhaustively covered by a range of sources, the podcast will look into the origin of Vanderpump Rules, the history of Sandoval and Madix’s relationship, and the relationship between the show and its fans. The company has not confirmed whether any of the cast members will be appearing as part of the podcast.
The Ringer, which is owned by Spotify, also produces podcasts on a number of other reality TV shows including Survivor, Keeping Up With The Kardashians, and more.
