Lloyds comms lead to chair Audio Advertising Awards jury

Brands and agencies have until 18 January to submit their entries

Lloyds Bank brand communications lead Vicky Handley has been announced as the chair of judges for the inaugural Audio Advertising Awards, which are set to take place in early summer 2024.

The awards, created in partnership between PodPod and Campaign, aim to celebrate and honour the work of advertisers, agencies, media owners, and creators in the audio space including podcasting, streaming, and radio.

“I feel incredibly proud to be chair of judges for the upcoming Audio Advertising awards,” said Handley. “Looking forward to celebrating advertiser's creativity, authenticity and innovation within our ever-evolving audio media landscape.”

Handley has over 20 years of experience in the marketing and advertising space and has worked at Lloyds for over 15 years, creating and being responsible for consumer brand communications across all the company’s paid, owned, and earned media channels.

The brand communications lead told PodPod in a previous episode that Lloyds started integrating podcasting into its media mix a few years ago, just before COVID, as a way to reach new audiences in a more innovative and engaging way than traditional media buys.

“There's certain different messages where you need to have a much more emotional connection with customers and the only way that you can do that is via media partnerships, via influencers, via presenters that have got that sort of emotional and kind of authentic relationship with their listeners,” Handley told PodPod. “They're more likely to listen, understand, and trust the brand that they're talking about rather than us [promoting the brand].”

The Audio Advertising Awards, sponsored by Radiocentre, recognises creativity within the audio advertising space with categories like Best Host-Read, Best Branded Podcast Series, Best Campaign, and more. The aim of the awards ceremony is to inspire advertisers in the industry to continue pushing boundaries and setting new standards for excellence in audio advertising.

Applicants have until 18 January to submit their entries before the standard deadline, which costs £380 + VAT. The venue and official date of the ceremony will also be confirmed in the near future.

Each of the categories will be reviewed by this year’s esteemed panel of judges, which includes experts from Sony Music Entertainment, Sounds Profitable, Spotify, Fresh Air, and many more. In addition to Audio Advertising Awards, PodPod is also hosting its inaugural Podcast Advertising Summit in partnership with Campaign on 25 January 2024. Tickets are still available to purchase via the website.
