Season two of hit BBC reality TV series The Traitors will be accompanied by a tie-in podcast when it launches next year, the broadcaster has announced, hosted by award-winning stand-up comedian Ed Gamble.
The TV show, based on a Dutch programme, follows a group of 22 contestants competing to win a shared prize fund. This is complicated by the fact that a certain number of them are the titular ‘traitors’, tasked with ‘murdering’ the other players and concealing their duplicity, while the rest of the group must identify and ‘banish’ them.
The Traitors: Uncloaked will feature exclusive interviews between Gamble and the banished or murdered contestants, as well as interviews with celebrity guests, and bonus unseen footage from the show featuring the reactions of contestants finding out the identity of the Traitors for the first time.
Blending companion podcasts and more traditional TV aftershows like Big Brother’s Little Brother, the show has been dubbed a ‘visualised podcast’, and will be broadcast on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer after the main show ends. Extended episodes featuring additional content and guests will later be released on BBC Sounds. The Traitors: Uncloaked is expected to launch alongside season two of The Traitors early next year.
Gamble is an experienced podcaster, having co-hosted the chart-topping comedy podcast Off Menu with James Acaster since 2018, as well as the official Taskmaster Podcast, which is a companion series to the Channel 4 reality show.
“The first series of The Traitors was my absolute obsession, and I cannot wait to delve deep into series two and dissect all the twists and turns it has to offer,” said Gamble. “It goes without saying that I am 100% faithful.”
“The Traitors is a show that EVERYONE is going to be talking about and this visualised podcast will be like joining the ultimate group chat, with cast members and celebrity guest fans revelling in all the drama and gameplay along with superfan Ed Gamble,” said BBC Sounds commissioning executive Louise Kattenhorn. “On top of that, we have footage of the moment the banished and murdered players found out who the Traitors were amongst them - I can’t wait!”
The Traitors: Uncloaked is produced by Listen for BBC Sounds, with executive producer Suzy Grant. The award-winning podcast agency produces a number of hit companion podcasts for TV shows, including the latest series of Love Island: The Morning After for ITV2 and ITVX and Geordie Shore: The Podcast in partnership with MTV.
“Just like The Traitors we’ve been keeping our own secret and we’re delighted to be making the official visualised podcast,” said Grant. “At Listen we’re taking companion podcasts to the next level in this hugely ambitious new show which will demonstrate the real power of podcasting.”
“There’s nothing out there like it and we can’t wait to start recording, cloaks optional."
