Irish Podcast Awards 2023: Spotlight Award

Podcasting is reaching wider audiences than ever before, and part of the reason behind that is blockbuster shows that have hundreds of thousands of listeners tuning in week after week. This category is dedicated to shows with over 100,000 monthly downloads, that are reaching mass audiences and pulling podcasts even further into the mainstream.

Winner: My Therapist Ghosted Me

The last 12 months have cemented My Therapist Ghosted Me as one of Ireland’s most loved podcasts. The show is now routinely downloaded over 100,000 times a day thanks to growth of more than 40% in the past 12 months, helped by hosts Vogue Williams and Joanne McNally’s first live performances (including four sold-out nights at the 3Arena Dublin).

Started in 2021 after McNally’s own therapist seemingly avoided her, the podcast is built on the philosophy that friends and laughter are the best therapy. The co-hosts come at the show from two very different lifestyles — Williams from motherhood and domestic life, and McNally from the city-jumping comedy circuit — to provide 100% unqualified but hilarious advice to each other and their growing band of listeners.

Those listeners are the bedrock of the show, with the pair receiving thousands of emails. The constant influx of listener mail has ensured the success of fan-favourite Wednesday ‘Extra’ episodes, where Williams and McNally offer frank and unforgettable guidance to fans.

Highly commended: The 2 Johnnies Podcast

From humble beginnings hosting a local GAA gala event, comedy duo Johnny B and Johnny Smacks have surged to popularity, hosting their own radio shows and even launching a TV series last month. The 2 Johnnies Podcast remains the beating heart of their success, however, with a consistently loyal fanbase.
