Celebrity comedy podcast Staying Relevant will continue to release while co-host Sam Thompson appears on ITV’s annual reality television series I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, according to the podcast's advertising partner, with the former Made In Chelsea star's co-host Pete Wicks joined by Thomspon's mother.
"Staying Relevant will be carrying on whilst Sam is on I'm A Celebrity," said Andy Goldsmith, managing director at podcast hosting and monetisation company Adelicious, which signed an ad partnership with the podcast in June this year. "Everyone involved with the show, including the amazing teams at Bauer and Insanity, is very much looking forward to his jungle escapades. It's going to be huge fun seeing how he copes with all the other celebs, let alone the snakes and spiders."
"More importantly, how will Pete cope without him for a few weeks!? The good news is, Pete's going to have some surprise guests helping him, following a 'going away party' episode planned for next Monday.”
The official announcement that Thompson was joining the cast of I'm A Celeb was made yesterday evening, confirming rumours that first started on 6 November, when Thompson’s partner Zara McDermott stood in for him on the podcast.
“The rumours were true,” said Thompson on Twitter. “I'm thrilled to announce that I'll be joining the adventure of a lifetime on I’m A Celeb. Tune into ITV every night from Sunday 19th November to see how I get on… wish me luck!”
Staying Relevant is a co-production with Bauer Media and Insanity Productions that first launched towards the end of October 2022, hosted by Thompson and fellow former reality star Pete Wicks. The podcast was one of five that were shortlisted for the Listener’s Choice Award at the British Podcast Awards this year.
Bauer Media Group creative director Trevor Jordan said he was “buzzing” about Thompson joining the I’m A Celeb cast for this year and said he can’t wait to see how Wicks will deal with this on the podcast, indicating that the show will continue to move forward while Thompson is away.
Other podcasters that have joined this year’s I’m A Celeb line-up include columnist and broadcaster Grace Dent, host of The Guardian’s Comfort Eating podcast, and YouTube creator Nella Rose who previously co-hosted the Pressed podcast in 2021 with Adeola Patronne and Mariam Musa before announcing her departure in December that year.
