Audio production company Voiceworks Sport has partnered with football club Wolverhampton Wanderers to launch a new official podcast, the company has announced.
The Football Gods is hosted by sports journalist and broadcaster Kate Mason and The Athletic writer Tim Spiers. Each week, the pair speaks to a different celebrity guest who has had an impact on football about their past, present, and future.
Guests on the podcast include former professional football player David Seaman in the first episode, which launched on Monday this week. The podcast is part of the Sport Social Podcast Network which has over 300 sports shows on its platform, including official football club podcasts such as The Official Man City Podcast and Iron Cast: the Official West Ham Podcast.
“It’s incredibly exciting to be a part of bringing a new show to Sport Social Podcast Network and have the opportunity to engage with fans of the beautiful game,” said Mason. As a huge football fan myself, I’m looking forward to hearing the thoughts of football enthusiasts from a range of backgrounds – however weird and wonderful their ideas! We can’t wait to grow our audience and have some fun chatting to our guests.”
The Football Gods is produced by Wolverhampton Wanderers’ in-house production team Wolves Studios and is part of the football club’s wider strategy to create more audio content to engage with their fanbase. The club previously launched Wolves Weekly: The Official Wolverhampton Wanderers Podcast in March 2023 and has kept it ongoing since the start of the Premier League.
“It’s fantastic to launch this new show in collaboration with Wolverhampton Wanderers,” said Voiceworks director of sport Jim Salvenson. “They truly understand the opportunity for rights holders within the audio space and it's fantastic to be working with them to realise this ambition.”
“The Football Gods is a really ground-breaking show in the world of official club content demonstrating ambition to reach fans outside of the club's traditional fanbaseand tap into the culture around sport rather than just focusing on the action on the pitch.”
As part of its goal to grow its global strategy and expand into new markets, Voiceworks recently announced that it has appointed Ruth Fitzsimons, former managing director of Podfront UK, as head of international. Sport Social also recently expanded its footprint in the US and Australian markets in August this year by signing with two global partners - BlueWire and ARN - and plans to continue growing its presence internationally.
