Iconic boy band Take That has announced the launch of a new six-part podcast series looking back at moments from their three-decade career, ahead of the launch of their ninth studio album.
Take That: This Life is hosted by band members Gary Barlow, Mark Owen and Howard Donald, who will talk about how the original group came together, discussing parts of their lives that they’ve either forgotten or never discussed on the record before. There will also be surprise video messages on the podcast from ‘special guests’.
“Who’d have thought after all this time we’d be adding professional podcasters to our resumes?!” the band said. “It’s been a real treat to sit down together and just chat, about some things we’ve talked about before and some things we haven’t. We hope people enjoy listening to us as we reminisce on old times and look ahead to the future of Take That.”
Take That: This Life is a production by Global and will be available to listen to on Global Player and across all major podcast platforms from 19 October. Following the album’s launch on 24 November - one day after the podcast ends - the band plans to go on tour in the UK and Ireland from April to June 2024.
The announcement of Take That’s podcast follows a trend of musicians using podcasts as a marketing tool to promote tours or album releases. In August this year, heavy metal band Metallica launched an official weekly news podcast which keeps fans updated on news from Metallica HQ and the band’s ongoing M72 world concert tour which is set to end in 2024.
Global’s line of original podcasts has also provided a number of known personalities and talents with a new platform through podcasts, including My Therapist Ghosted Me with former reality star Vogue Williams and comedian Joanne McNally, Daily Grind with former BBC 6 Music presenter Shaun Keaveny, and more.
