Wondery is launching an original limited podcast series in partnership with Audacy’s podcast production house Pineapple Street Studios, the Amazon-owned company has announced.
The seven-part podcast series, titled Ghost Story, is hosted by Al-Jazeera journalist Tristan Redman, who does not believe in ghosts but sets out to explore the house in which his wife’s great-grandmother, Naomi Dancy, was murdered and the history behind her family.
Ghost Story features accounts from both members of the family and others close to the investigation who speak out about the murder for the first time, including actor Hugh Dancy, as well as input from experts like homicide detectives and ghost hunters.
“Journalists aren’t supposed to take ghosts seriously. But when you find out there might be one in your bedroom, and that it might be linked to a family murder: how could you not investigate?” said Redman. “I’ve spent two years reporting this story and I’m excited for people to hear it. It’s about ghosts, it’s about a forgotten murder and it’s about how we deal with uncomfortable things from the past.”
The podcast is launching 23 October on all major podcast platforms, including the Audacy app, and will be able to binge-listen to without ads on Wondery+ and Amazon Music for subscribers.
This is the fourth podcast collaboration between Wondery and Pineapple Street Studios, having launched other hit podcasts like 9/12 which features seven different stories from people’s lives after the events of 9/11, Will Be Wild which is a limited series on the events that led up to the 6 January insurrection and what happens after, and Persona on the story of con artist Gilbert Chikli.
Wondery is known for its line of hit true-crime podcasts. As part of this strategy, the company is hosting a free Halloween event in New York on October 24 which brings its true crime channel to life, featuring participants from a number of the channel’s hit true-crime shows, including the hosts from Dr. Death, Scamfluencers, MrBallen Podcast: Strange, Dark, and Mysterious Stories, Exposed and Killer Psyche.
