Leeds Teaching Hospitals, one of the largest NHS Trusts in the UK, has launched a new four-part podcast miniseries which deep-dives into the inner workings of the hospital and the daily lives of workers.
The podcast is titled Vital Signs, andfollows on from the success of BBC Two’s eight-part television documentary series Saving Lives in Leeds, which aired in April this year. The first episode launched on Tuesday this week, with new episodes continuing to release every Monday on all major podcast platforms.
“I was keen to take part in this new podcast series, to reveal some of the behind-the-scenes activity at work in a large and incredibly busy teaching hospital such as Leeds,” said Leeds Teaching Hospital transplant surgeon consultant Shahid Farid.
“We undertake some exceptional work here in Leeds, not just for patients in the city, but as a specialist centre for patients travelling from further afield… To be able to spotlight some of those services and the complex number of people involved, is a really great opportunity.”
Each episode of the podcast explores a different speciality in one of the hospitals, with topics like the power of playing at Leeds Children’s Hospital, how Leeds is leading the field in trauma care in celebration of Leeds’ Major Trauma Centre’s 10 year anniversary, and the process it takes to deliver a new organ to a patient with the Leeds liver transplant team.
Vital Signs is produced by audio content agency This Is Distorted, which works with companies to create branded podcasts. The agency’s podcast portfolio includes another podcast for the NHS titled Health Uncovered with Cel Spellman, Trans Truths for Virgin Radio, Building Better Business for Cafédirect, and more.
The NHS has continued to used podcasts as a tool to raise awareness with shows like the NHS England Podcast, which provides commentary and information on NHS healthcare services, The Provider Podcast from the membership organisation for the NHS hospital, and Healthcare People - The NHS Professionals Podcast which speaks to healthcare and staffing experts about being in the care workforce.
