Audible, Amazon Music and Wondery partner with British Podcast Awards 2023

Audio giants pledge investment to support bursary scheme

Audible, Amazon Music and Wondery will be supporting this year’s British Podcast Awards, joining BBC Sounds and Global as Gold Partners.

Audible is sponsoring the Podcast Champion category, which is an editorially-selected award that will recognise an individual driving the podcast medium forward. Amazon Music and Wondery, meanwhile, will be sponsoring the Best Comedy Podcast category.

Previously-announced category sponsors for the ceremony also include broadcasting giant Global, which is sponsoring the Spotlight Award and the Best Sports Podcast category, and BBC Sounds, which is sponsoring Best Daily Podcast. The awards will be given out as part of this year’s official ceremony, which will be taking place on 28 September, at HERE at Outernet in London’s Tottenham Court Road.

Amazon Music and Wondery’s partnership contribution has been used to expand the BPA’s bursary scheme, which provides free tickets to shortlisted nominees to ensure they are able to attend. The scheme is particularly aimed at podcast creators within the independent sector.

“We’re thrilled to be sponsoring the British Podcast Awards bursary scheme for a second year and to be making even more tickets available for creators,” said Craig Strachan, head of podcasts for Europe, Australia and New Zealand at Amazon Music. “The UK has a thriving independent podcast industry and we know how important these events are in recognising talent across the industry so we remain committed to helping to reduce financial barriers to access awards like this.”

Thanks to Amazon Music and Wondery’s support, the event’s organisers have announced that they have been able to increase the number of tickets available through the bursary scheme, which can be applied for by emailing britishpodcastawards@haymarket.com.
