Bauer appoints new CEO for UK audio business

Simon Myciunka steps up from leading Irish division

UK broadcast and digital media giant Bauer Media has appointed Simon Myciunka as CEO for its UK audio business, the company has announced, replacing previous group managing director Dee Ford.

The broadcaster announced earlier this year that Ford will be leaving the business this summer, after a tenure of more than 35 years with the company, in order to spend more time with her family.

Starting from 1 July, Myciunka will assume many of her responsibilities across the company’s radio and podcast operations, which include The Empire Film Podcast, Tim’s Listening Party, and the Frank Skinner Show, as well as radio brands like Absolute Radio and Kiss FM. Myciunka is currently CEO of Bauer Media Audio Ireland; a position that he has held since 2001, when Bauer acquired the Irish arm of broadcast company Communicorp.

“Simon brings the ideal mix of skills to take the business forward to meet its next set of ambitions,” said Richard Dawkins, president of audio for Bauer Media Group, “as we not only strengthen our position in live broadcast radio but also exploit all the opportunities that digital presents to deepen our relationships with audiences and commercial partners alike, ensuring we have a vibrant and inclusive culture that enables everyone to do their best work”.

Myciunka’s current position in Ireland will be filled by group operations director Chris Doyle on an interim basis until a permanent replacement has been selected.

The news follows the launch of Rayo, Bauer’s new digital audio platform, designed to make the company’s audio content more accessible to listeners and open up more potential opportunities for commercial partnerships and advertising.
