Rylan Clark to make podcast debut with BBC Radio 4 in series How To Be A Man

10-part series will touch on toxic masculinity, gender identity, body image, and more

BBC Radio 2 broadcaster and former reality star Rylan Clark has announced that he will be making his podcast debut on BBC Radio 4, hosting a brand-new series.

The 10-part podcast series, titled How To Be A Man, will explore modern masculinity through interviews with a number of celebrities and activists. Topics that Clark will be touching on will include toxic masculinity and stereotypes, gender identity, body image, role models, childhood and parents, and other sensitive issues.

The podcast will include guest appearances from CBBC presenter Kit Brown, triple amputee and former Royal Marine Mark Ormrod, Strictly Come Dancing champion and podcaster Hamza Yassin, trans activist Freddy McConnell, comedian Phil Wang, broadcaster Janet Street-Porter, openly gay footballer Jake Daniels, male model David Gandy, and Changing Rooms presenter Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen.

“I’m looking forward to chatting to a bunch of interesting people about what it means to be a modern man,” said Clark. “From the old fashioned stereotypes to gender identity, I hope people find these conversations interesting, insightful and perhaps even useful.”

The podcast will debut on BBC Sounds as a boxset from 9 May and will also be broadcast weekly on BBC Radio 4 from 18 May. Clark is also the host of BBC Radio 2’s Saturday afternoon music broadcast series Rylan on Saturday, and co-presented the UK Audio & Radio Industry Awards (ARIAs) earlier this week on Tuesday with singer and songwriter Fleur East at London’s Theatre Royal Drury Lane, for the second year in a row.

“We’re delighted to welcome Rylan to Radio 4 in this new podcast,” said BBC commissioning editor Rhian Roberts. “His charming curiosity and unexpected questions are irresistible, you just know his guests are telling him things they didn’t set out to reveal. Rylan gets to the heart of the dilemmas facing not just men but all of us as we try to navigate the 2020s. His new show is a total pleasure.”
