YouTube MD to join Listen on stage at The Podcast Show

Alison Lomax will join panel discussion with UNBOXED host and Arcade Media founder

Listen has announced that YouTube UK & Ireland managing director Alison Lomax will join the podcast production company on stage at The Podcast Show this year.

This will be YouTube’s only appearance at the Podcast Show, discussing the platform’s future plans around advancing its features and tools in podcasting. Earlier this year at The Verge’s Hot Pod summit, YouTube head of podcasting Kai Chuk announced that YouTube Music will start streaming podcasts “in the near future” as part of this expansion.

“We’re constantly investing in the features and experiences that will make YouTube a great home for viewers and creators now and in the future,” said Lomax. “I look forward to discussing our plans to make it even easier for creators and artists to showcase their podcasts on YouTube.”

In March 2023, YouTube also officially started rolling out podcast tools and features to creators in the US that allow them to upload and mark playlists as podcasts as well as analyse podcast-specific performance data such as traffic sources, audience demographics, audience retention metrics and revenue data.

Lomax will join Listen and creator management company Arcade Media on day one of The Podcast Show on the Rise Up stage, discussing what the podcast industry can learn from the creator economy.

Others joining Lomax during the panel discussion include Listen managing director Josh Adley; co-founder of Arcade Media and host of Listen’s first original podcast UNBOXED Jordan Schwarzenberger, and YouTuber and host of the Caught Off Guard podcast Patricia Bright.

“I'm a big fan of what Jordan is doing on UNBOXED and I'm excited to share what YouTube has in store for users, creators and the wider podcast economy,” said Lomax.

“We’re delighted to have Alison join our stage,” said Adley. “YouTube’s role and presence in podcasting is not only huge now, but increasing massively this year. To host her only panel across the show, and hear directly from their MD at one of the most important podcast events of the year, was a priority for us.”

Four other panels will be held by Listen and Arcade Media on the same stage that day discussing the same theme and will feature a range of speaker experts from the industry, including Business Insider creator economy reporter Marta Biino, Spotify creator partnerships manager Jonny Mounsor, Sky senior podcast manager and host of Plot Twist podcast Tom Pauc, Netflix global podcast content lead Rae Votta, and LinkedIn Editorial head of creator ventures Pia Brady.

The Podcast Show is an annual celebration of the podcasting industry which brings together experts and creators from all over the world. This year’s event will take place in London at the Business Design Centre in Islington and run from 24-25 May with an additional live podcast festival from 22-28 May.

Acast, Amazon Music and Wondery are the headline partners for this year’s Podcast Show and other official partners include PodPod, Campaign, Spotify, YMU Entertainment, Dolby, Tortoise Media, Audioboom, BBC Sounds, Global and Veritone.

PodPod and Campaign will support the Brands Works Theatre which is located on the main show floor and presented by Global in association with Fresh Air. Features from PodPod and Campaign include two stand-out sessions per day with four individuals in total from leading industry brands, and two panels for the Rise Up Stage based on PodPod's ‘Faces to Watch’ programme.
