Sony is launching a social media thriller podcast on 3 April, the first-ever scripted fiction podcast from the company, starring Bohemian Rhapsody actor Ben Hardy and The Girl Before actress Jessica Plummer.
The eight-part weekly series titled TAGGED follows a newly wed social media influencer couple played by Hardy and Plummer that discover an identical couple stalking and imitating their content while on their honeymoon, before being interrogated for a double homicide and discovering an influencer-led cult.
“The podcast's rich narrative and soundscape takes listeners on a dark fictional journey to the underbelly of influencer life, exploring what could happen when social media bleeds into real life,” the press release stated.
All episodes of the podcast are available to listen to at once from 1 April for subscribers of Sony’s The Binge podcast channel available on Apple Podcasts. Subscribers also benefit from ad-free listening to podcasts within the channel, including the award-winning true-crime podcast Chameleon: Wild Boys and newly released investigative series Cover Up: Ministry of Secrets.
TAGGED is created in partnership with audio fiction production company Goldhawk Productions, which is behind a number of hit scripted podcasts such as Audible’s Young Blood, the BBC’s The Incident at Ong’s Hat, BBC Sounds’ The Cipher, and many more. A majority share of Goldhawk Productions was acquired by international podcast investment company PodX in October 2022 to expand its global reach.
Sony has launched a number of other recent podcasts with production company Somethin’ Else, which was acquired by the music platform in 2021 to expand its portfolio of podcast shows across multiple genres. Recent releases include series 2 of comedy podcast Please Tell Me A Story with comedian and actor Omid Djalili and pop culture podcast The Social Dose with content creators Michael Judson Berry and Paris Nicholson.
