The shortlist of candidates for this year’s Publisher Podcast Awards has been announced ahead of the annual ceremony – with PodPod nominated in the Best Podcast Launch category.
Created by the Media Voices Podcast, the yearly event celebrates excellence in podcasting from publishers and media owners, and includes categories ranging from Best Commercial Strategy to Best B2B Podcast.
Highlights from this year’s shortlist - which is available in full on the Publisher Podcast Awards website - include Immediate Media’s History Extrain the Hobbies and Special Interest category, Film Stories with Simon Brew for Best Entertainment and Culture Podcast (which was last year’s winner), and The IT Pro Podcast for Best Technology Podcast and Best B2B Podcast.
“So much for a podcast industry slowdown,” Media Voices Podcast co-host Esther Thorpe told PodPod. “This year's entries and shortlist just proved to us that podcasting has gone up another level. Rather than just the obvious brand launches, publishers are now looking to podcasts to give insight, involve guests and tell stories in ways which play to their storytelling strengths.”
The winners of the awards will be announced at a ceremony in London on 26 April, including a pre-event networking forum. Tickets for the ceremony start at £20 for a virtual ticket, and £140 for an in-person ticket.
Alongside the content and strategy categories, the award for Publisher Podcast Hero of the Year will also be presented, with shortlisted candidates including Aiwan Obinyan for her work with gal-dem - which she discussed in her interview with PodPod last year - and IT Pro’s Rory Bathgate, who joined as co-host of The IT Pro Podcast in October last year.
“The results here speak for themselves,” Thorpe said; “this is not just a shortlist, this is a list of inspirational pods to add to your listening queue.”
PodPod launched in October 2022 with Rihanna Dhillon as presenter and regular co-hosts Adam Shepherd, the editor of PodPod, Reem Makari, reporter on PodPod, and Matt Hill, co-founder of the British Podcast Awards.
Editor’s note: The British Podcast Awards are open for entries until 18 May, and any media podcasters who haven’t made the shortlist for the Publisher Podcast Awards are encouraged to submit their nominations early.
