Podcast subscription service Podimo expands into UK via partnerships

Company will back more than 20 new podcasts this year, including partnerships with Listen, Tortoise Media, MagsCreative, and more

Podcast platform and subscription service Podimo has launched its presence in the UK by signing partnerships which will result in over 20 new podcasts coming out this year.

This is part of the Denmark-based company’s efforts to grow its platform by investing into global markets, after announcing in 2022 that it has raised nearly 60 million euros towards expanding its platform beyond Denmark, Germany, Spain, Norway, The Netherlands, Finland, and across Latin America.

“We've seen a great response from creators and listeners in the three years since we’ve been producing shows in the UK at a small scale,” said Podimo’s global head of studios Jake Chudnow. “We feel the time is right to invest further in the market by collaborating with industry-leading partners and putting together a slate of exciting voices and shows that we think the UK audience will love. This is the next step in Podimo’s exciting journey into the UK.”

Podimo's main business is based on its subscription offering, which gives customers ad-free listening and other benefits. While the app is currently available in Denmark, Germany, Norway, Spain, The Netherlands, Finland and Latin America, a UK launch has not yet been announced. These new content partnerships - the results of which will be freely available via all podcast platforms - are set to form the basis for a future expansion of the app into UK territories, however.

The company has signed three multi-show partnerships with production company Listen for five weekly series, including a chat show titled Where’s Home Really with journalist and food critic Jimi Famurewa, five new shows with ‘slow news’ publisher Tortoise Media including weekly news podcast The News Meeting, and five weekly series with production company What’s The Story Sounds including a chat podcast with comedic writer Adam Kay and television presenter Matt Edmondson.

Podimo has also signed other one-off partnerships with a number of other podcast producers including a weekly call-in advice show with MagsCreative on life, sex, and relationships with Naked Attraction television presenter Anna Richardson, a weekly science podcast with TellTale industries titled Richard Wiseman’s On Your Mind, a limited series with Message Heard on a stolen piece of art from Banksy, the English version of a true-crime weekly series titled The Darkness Vaults with Vespucci, and the English translated versions of a range of Podimo’s hit true-crime podcast series including Murder in The North.

The partnership between Podimo and Tortoise media was previously announced in November 2022 as a way to show podcast listeners how journalists really think and work through podcasts such as The News Meeting. Other pre-existing partnerships include a previous collaboration with What’s The Story sounds on award-winning true crime podcast The Missing.
