Ex-BBC Sounds assistant commissioner joins Mags Creative team in management role

James Norman-Fyfe starts new role as head of production unit

Podcast production and promotion company Mags Creative has announced that ex-BBC assistant commissioner James Norman-Fyfe is joining the team as head of production.

Norman-Fyfe is an award-winning content producer with six years of experience at the BBC, his most recent role being assistant commissioner for music for BBC Sounds, as well as taking over responsibility of running the BBC’s on-demand music channel ‘Back To Back Sounds’. He was also mentioned in The Radio Academy’s 30 under 30 list of ones to watch in November 2022.

“I am so excited to be joining the senior team at Mags Creative at this pivotal time in their journey,” said Norman-Fyfe. “I’ve admired Mags’ work from afar for a while now, so I can’t wait to get stuck in.”

This new appointment will continue to expand Mags Creative’s portfolio and reach as Norman-Fyfe’s responsibilities will include maintaining high production standards, building the professional development of the team, and working with a number of important Mags Creative clients including brands, commissioning platforms, and sponsors.

“As soon as we met James, we knew that he was the right person for the job,” said Mags Creative co-founders Hannah and Faith Russel. “He shares our vision for the future of the industry - and Mags’ pivotal place within that - and brings a wealth of experience in content more widely. We can’t wait to see what we achieve together this year - and beyond!”

Mags Creative was previously nominated for Audio UK’s Audio Production Awards in 2022 and won the silver award for the Best Network of The Year category while Resonance FM won gold.

Other ex-BBC employees to join other podcast companies include veteran executive Dixi Stewart who this week joined audiovisual production company SandStone Global as managing director.
