Heat magazine editor-in-chief starts senior podcasting role at Bauer Media

Heat 7 podcast host assumes new title as chief creative officer of podcasts and commercial content

Bauer Media Audio UK has announced the appointment of Heat magazine’s editor-in-chief Lucie Cave as the chief creative officer of podcasts and commercial content.

Cave has over 13 years of experience at Bauer media, having held previous senior roles including chief content officer at the company. She also has experience with hosting a number of podcasts, including Global’s Back Then When with co-host Keith Lemon Heat magazine’s first original podcast which she launched at the end of last year.

“This is a brand-new era for podcasting as we move beyond ‘format’ to atomised content across multiple platforms,” said Cave. “As an editor, journalist and host myself I am massively excited by the opportunity to develop talent into transmedia brands and find new ways of reaching fans and building audiences.”

The Heat 7 podcast was created in partnership with audio production company Daft Doris which is co-founded by Jamie East and Liam Thompson - both of whom talked about the project on a previous episode of PodPod. The podcast is in the same style as their first hit podcast under the production company, The Smart 7, with seven daily celebrity news stories delivered in seven minutes.

Cave’s appointment into the new role is part of Bauer Media’s goal to expand more into podcasting, having built a successful slate of podcast’s including award-winning show The Empire Film Podcast - whose co-hosts will be appearing on tomorrow’s PodPod episode - football podcast Superscoreboard, Absolute Radio’s Frank Skinner’s Poetry Podcast, and Scala Radio’s Charlie Higson with Friends

“Bauer has been at the forefront of the digital audio revolution, investing significantly in digital audio broadcasting and creating market-leading digital audio offerings for our customers through Instream and Octave Audio,” said chief operating officer of Bauer Media Audio UK, Graham Bryce. “As the podcast market develops critical mass we feel the time is right to really step up our investment in podcast content development led by the talented creative Lucie Cave.”

In addition to Cave’s new role, Bauer Media podcast editor and award-winning executive radio producer Maria Williams has also been promoted to the head of production for podcasts at the media company. Both Williams and Cave will report to Bauer Media Audio UK’s chief content and music officer Ben Cooper and chief operating officer Graham Bryce.
