Spotify has been testing out a rebrand of its podcast platform tools, according to a survey sent to creators within the Spotify for Podcasters program.
The survey, first reported by TechCrunch, was sent out to podcasters within Spotify’s network to gauge opinion about the potential change, which would see Anchor and Spotify for Podcasters consolidated into an all-in-one podcast platform named ‘Spotify Creator Studio’.
“Anchor and Spotify for Podcasters are now Spotify Creator Studio,” a sample announcement included in the survey read; “the all-in-one platform for creators of all kinds (and sizes) to express themselves and find success on Spotify.”
Under the proposed plans, Spotify for Podcasters would be renamed to ‘Spotify Creator Studio - Unhosted’, giving shows hosted on other platforms access to Spotfiy’s analytics and audience engagement tools, while Anchor would be renamed to ‘Spotify Creator Studio - Hosted’. In addition to accessing analytics and listener interactive features like polls and Q&As, this also includes Anchor-native features like free hosting, mobile app tools, video podcasts, and monetisation.
Anchor was acquired by Spotify in 2019 as part of the company’s numerous recent podcasting acquisitions, which have also included narrative podcasting company Gimlet Media, podcast network The Ringer, and analytics platforms Podsights and Chartable.
While the survey indicates that Spotify is considering rebranding its podcasting tools, there is no confirmation whether these ideas will be put into motion, or what timeframe the company is looking at.
“At Spotify, we routinely conduct a number of surveys and tests in an effort to improve our user experience,” a Spotify spokesperson told PodPod. “Some of these end up paving the path for our broader user experience and others serve only as an important learning. We have no news to share on future plans at this time.”
