Apple News is launching a new podcast that will recap all the action at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, with co-hosts Ted Lasso actor and co-creator Brendan Hunt and NBC sports presenter Rebecca Lowe.
The limited series titled After The Whistle premieres tomorrow (17 November), three days before the tournament officially kicks off in Qatar, to give a taste of what listeners can expect from the podcast.
“Apple loves soccer – from Ted Lasso to Major League Soccer; and now two of the game’s most exciting voices delivering listeners their take on all of the biggest moments of the tournament,” said senior vice president of services at Apple Eddy Cue. “We’re proud to offer our users around the world great ways to follow all the excitement with After The Whistle and in Apple News.”
Hunt and Lowe are “two bonafide football superfans” according to Apple, and will provide both an entertaining and informative perspective of the World Cup tournament – breaking down highlights from the games and re-capping the wins and losses.
After The Whistle is produced for Apple by sports-focused content studio Meadowlark Media, who signed a multi-year contract with Apple TV+ in 2021. As part of the partnership, Meadowlark will produce a range of documentary films and unscripted series for the streaming service.
Other podcasts that are preparing to cover the World Cup tournament this year include Sky Sports’ World Cup Podcast, which previewed on 15 November, The Guardian’s Football Weekly, and the BBC’s 5 Live World Cup Daily podcast.
