Paramount Global has announced the appointment of Megan Marcus as vice president of podcast editorial in order to expand its podcasting projects.
Marcus is a journalist and producer who previously worked as the executive audio producer for CNN where she worked on a number of podcast projects including All There Is With Anderson Cooper. She has also previously worked for CBS News on the first two seasons of the podcast Mobituaries hosted by CBS Sunday Morning’s correspondent Mo Rocca.
“Megan is a dynamic producer and leader in the podcasting field,” said Paramount’s executive vice president of podcasting and audio Steve Raizes in a statement. “She did an incredible job guiding ‘Mobituaries’ to the top of the podcast charts and is already at work on our current and future slate of CBS News Audio properties.”
The new role will see Marcus working across a number of Paramount’s podcasts and returning to CBS News by overseeing shows including true-crime investigation podcast My Life of Crime with Ed Moriarty and news podcast CBS Sunday Morning.
Paramount Global has been working on expanding its podcast portfolio with original shows that are “rooted in renowned IP that fans know and love”. These podcasts run across a number of networks including MTV Entertainment Group, CBS, CBS News, CBS Sports, Showtime, Nickelodeon, CBS Media Adventures, and Paramount Pictures.
Podcasts included in their profile that tie into well-known TV shows and films include Squirrel Friends: The Official Rupaul’s Drag Race Podcast produced by MTV, iHeartMedia, and World of Wonder as well as Nickelodeon’s Spongebob Bingepants produced by iHeartMedia.
This rising trend amongst film and TV franchises to create official podcasts is also becoming popular with other networks such as Marvel with its recent release of Wakanda Forever: The Official Black Panther Podcast and IGN’s The Callisto Protocol horror prequel podcast.
