The nominees for the Audio Production Awards 2022 have been announced ahead of the 23 November ceremony, including a new category for publisher or network of the year. The annual event by trade association Audio UK is a chance to celebrate people and companies involved in audio production across all audio content including podcasts, radio, audiobooks, and more.
Poppy Jay and Rubina Pabani, co-hosts of the award-winning sex & relationships podcast by BBC Sounds, Brown Girls Do It Too, will be hosting the awards gala at the BFI in London.
This year’s awards received a “record-breaking number of entries” according to Bernard Achampong, founder of media production company Unedited, vice chair of AudioUK and chair of judges for the awards.
“It is so encouraging to see, and such an exciting industry to be a part of,” said Achampong. “Our vision is to champion the most outstanding producers whose work we will listen back to in 20 years time and all be proud of.”
Presenter, producer, and sound designer Axel Kacoutié is nominated this year across three categories - Best Factual Producer, Best Presenter, and Best Sound Designer - for his work on Falling Tree radio production company as well as other freelance work.
Kacoutié is also the sound designer of Spotify’s Decode podcast which is an adaptation of the US show Dissect that analyses UK hip hop and rap albums. The Decode team includes Kacoutié, presenter Kayo Chingonyi and Reduced Listening producer Joby Waldman, all of whom will be featured as guests in tomorrow’s episode of PodPod.
Other podcast nominations from the Audio Production Awards included Reduced Listening for production company of the year, BBC Sounds’s Ali Rezakhani for best branded sound producer, The Telegraph’s Cara McGoogan for best new voice, and more.
