Investigative journalist John Sweeney to headline new podcast series for Global

New show follows Hunting Ghislaine and will focus on ‘people in trouble’

UK media company Global has launched a trailer for a new podcast series hosted by British investigative journalist John Sweeney.

The 15-episode series, titled Sweeney Talks, will explore the real stories of people who have found themselves in serious trouble and had to fight for survival while on the job such as ex-spies, investigative journalists and former politicians.

“The best stories don’t come from the well behaved, they come from people who are in trouble,” said Sweeney. “My job is to tell the stories that power and money don’t want told, and you can’t stand up to power and money if you’re afraid of getting into trouble.”

The show is Sweeney’s second podcast under Global’s LBC brand, and follows Hunting Ghislaine, in which Sweeney uncovered the life of Ghislaine Maxwell before and after the arrest of Jeffrey Eipstein. The six-part series quickly reached number one on the Apple Podcasts UK charts and had more than six million listeners since its release.

Sweeney is a prominent investigative journalist and conflict reporter, having worked at The Observer for 12 years and at the BBC for 17 years. His work as a journalist has landed him in trouble in the past, having previously locked horns with Donald Trump, the Church of Scientology, and former English Defence League leader Tommy Robinson.

Sweeney Talks will feature guests that have went through similar experiences, including Dr Rachel Clarke, an NHS palliative care doctor who had to recently flee a bomb shelter in Ukraine, former MI6 agent Christopher Steele, Elgen Strait, a former member of The Moonies Cult, and more.

The podcast will premiere on 31 October with the first two episodes out on all podcast platforms, with new episodes every Monday.
