Pod Save America creators announce new UK-focused podcast

Comedian Nish Kumar to host Pod Save The UK, examining political news across the UK and Europe

Crooked Media, creators of Pod Save America, are launching a new show focused on UK politics, as part of the company’s efforts to expand to larger international audiences.

The new podcast, titled Pod Save The UK, was announced at the IAB Podcast Upfronts 2022 on October 19, and will be produced by Reduced Listening, the company behind Spotify original podcast Decode.

The series is expected to launch early next year and will be hosted by British stand-up comedian and TV host Nish Kumar. Kumar will be sitting down each episode with a variety of experts, including journalists, satirists and politicians, to discuss what’s happening in the world of politics across the UK and Europe.

“I’ll be keeping you updated on everything that’s happening in the UK and across Europe as my country tries to do the political equivalent of poisoning itself for reasons that remain unclear,” said Kumar in a video shown at Podcast Upfronts. “I will be talking to experts across a wide variety of fields as I try to keep you from the fact that I am a stand-up comedian who knows absolutely nothing, but is a real cute guy.”

As with Crooked Media’s other shows, worldwide advertising rights for Pod Save The UK will be held by Sirius XM’s ad sales arm, SXM Media, and the podcast will be distributed by Stitcher across all podcast platforms.

This is the second adaptation of Crooked Media’s Pod Save America series. The original show - a “no-bullshit conversation about politics” hosted by four former Barack Obama aides - was followed by Pod Save The World, providing an overview on American foreign policy and global political news.

“Nish is passionate about politics, smart, insightful and hilarious,” Tommy Vietor,  Crooked Media co-founder and co-host of Pod Save America and Pod Save the World, said in a statement. “And at a time when the Prime Minister of the UK is being compared to a rotting head of lettuce, his laugh-so-we-don’t-cry approach to helping us understand it all is more important than ever.”
